Many existing web servers support PHP.
When you add a php file as below, it provides a web page.

The php code is executed in the web server.
Static content from html code, dynamic content from echo.

As an asynchronous event driven JavaScript runtime, Node is designed to build scalable network applications. In the following "hello world" example, many connections can be handled concurrently. Upon each connection the callback is fired, but if there is no work to be done Node is sleeping.

I installed nodejs in both my window 7 and and mac

use browser to test the resonse from the server.
You can also use console.log to find the variable contents in the server.

Both may handle many connections at the same time.
Php uses threads, context-switch is required. It consumes memory usages...
In later of this site, rest topics, you'll see the example swap between UI thread and network thread.
Nodejs uses event-driven pattern, more scalable and efficient.
Php is much more easy to learn.
